Replacing a Workstation

Steps:

  1. Login on customer portal (www.paymatesoftware.com) using your id and password.
  2. On the Product table Click on Product Name link at the bottom of the page.
  3. On the Next page scroll down and locate the Download section.
  4. Click on Download 20xx - Clarity 20xx (... tax tables) Version 6.XX. Where XX is the latest version found on the customer portal.

NOTE: If unable to download using the Chrome browser use the Firefox browser OR Edge browser in order to download the executable file.

User will be asked to save the file.

The file will be saved in the Download folder (Firefox: ; Edge : )

  1. Backup your Clarity data as is: Start Clarity and login into your company. From top menu: Utilities > backup > make note of the backup location and file name.
    (NOTE : If having multiple companies backup each of them.)
  2. Write down the location of the Clarity licence file. From top menu: Help > Licence file information > write down the location. Close Clarity.
    (NOTE : Ensure that new Windows users have full control to the location)
    You may save the Clarity.config file from the workstation that you are replacing. By default the CONFIG file is into the C:\Program Files (x86)\Clarity folder
  3. Install Clarity on the new workstation. (see upgrade / install instructions). Do not start Clarity.
  4. On the new workstation you can overwrite the Clarity.config file with the file saved at step 1.
  5. Start Clarity on the new workstation and review if connection to database exists.
  6. Start Clarity. At the login window click “Database option” button. User can see the server and the instance.
  7. Enter the user name and the password > Click “Test connection”

Upgrade a Workstation

Note: Ensure no window related to Clarity is open. No user should have Clarity open. No payroll should be in process ( pay period open)

Steps:

  1. Login on customer portal (www.paymatesoftware.com) using your id and password.
  2. On the Product table Click on Product Name link
  3. On the Next page scroll down and locate the Download section
  4. Click on Download 20xx - Clarity 20xx (... tax tables) Version 6.XX. Where XX is the latest version found on the customer portal.

Save the file on your computer before running it.

Before proceeding with upgrade:

  1. Start you Clarity and capture the information for the Licence file location: Help > Licence information. Write down the location
  2. Backup your Clarity data as is: Start Clarity and login into your company. From top menu: Utilities > backup > make note of the backup location and file name.
    (NOTE : If having multiple companies backup each of them.) Close Clarity.
  3. Go to downloaded file. Right click on the file and select run as administrator. Select remove.
  4. Run the downloaded file the second time. Right click and select run as administrator. Select install. Before pressing "Finish" uncheck the history version box. Press OK.


Note: If having multiple workstations/ server that are running Clarity all the units must have the same Clarity version installed.

  1. Scenario: user update workstation first and not the server.


    1) Upgrade Clarity on the server

    2) On the server Check if Clarity is working

    3) On the server Open Clarity, select company login in the company

    4) On the server Check where is the license locate Go to the main menu Help >license file location if the license is in a share location then check if this location has windows user full control read and write

    5) If Licence is C:\Program Files (x86)\Clarity\ then close Clarity on the server

    Create a shared folder on the server with full control windows user read and write

    On the server open Clarity : Help > License file location and mapping to the share location. This will move the licence file to the location selected

    6) Once you defined your license share location on the server then go to the workstation and map license share location, please use UNC path \\Server\License please check if you can see mapping from the windows explorer to check if this folder is shared on the network

  2. Scenario: Clarity activated but still asking for licence file location.

    Resolution: Review the permissions for the licence file location.

    Try to activate again.
